When I'm beats on the other hand, there is a lot of Freezing going on. It literally affects everything you do.Good point, I use Slate Digital plugins right now and surprisingly my MBP can handle it, especially when I'm tracking vocals. You can't go wrong with upgrading your interface. So you will be getting better audio, but going sideways with ergonomics. But the Focusrite suffers from limited controls also. It is a crime to have one knob to control the preamp, headphone, and monitor gain. We are constantly having to access controls. One knob might look good for an industrial design photograph ("it's so elegant!") but it is horrible for audio. Downsides of UAD: it runs hot, makes audible hardware switching sounds, and does the stupid Apple Ipod one knob thing. The UAD is much better than the Focusrite. If I had the funds, that's certainly what I'd do! I agree that the ideal scenario is to keep the ISA one and pair it with an Apollo Twin. What bothers me about the Apollo is putting all my eggs in one basket (e.g., mic preamps + interface + DSP in one hot-running' box means that if it craps out, you lose your whole chain.) It literally affects everything you do.I kinda know what you mean, but in this case (i) it's a fairly middling microphone being run in, so I have my doubts that switching to an Apollo is going to be more transformative than a better mic would be (though there's a definite increase in flexibility with the Unision pres that could compensate), and (ii) if (s)he is using their Scarlett as I use mine, the mic gain on the Scarlett will be all the way down: There may be some coloration of the Isa one "sound" on its way through, but it's pretty minimal, and if you *like* the ISA one sound (I do!) that's not something to give up easily. It does get warm, but doesn't seem to be a problem, plenty of ventilation. The one knob thing is no big deal, it's still got way more functionality than the Scarlett did. I never hear it while its on continuously. The clicking sounds only happen when I power mine up or down, and then weirdly like 20 minutes to an hour after I power it off sometimes. I have some unison preamps, I like the neve sometimes, but its nice to have hardware preamps, the ISA one is probably more detailed than the unison pres I've tried anyway, and you may regret selling that if you like it.Īs for the above comment. Unison is cool, but so is having an ISA one. It's not a massive difference but my mixes have improved since upgrading and I feel like I can hear everything more clearly when monitoring. There is a degree of clarity that I just didn't get with the focusrite interface.

I made the same upgrade and I'm very happy with the difference. The Apollo converters will be better than the Scarlett. I don't need you speculating in my thread posting invalid information, period, end of discussion.įocusrite Scarlett works with vista, that's all that matters.I say get the Apollo but keep the ISA one.

All I wanted were (true) answers to what I specifically asked. The entire reason I posted that was to prevent the obvious from being pointed out.

Why in the hell would I be asking about a previous version when I have the newer one? Even If I were to try purchasing an older version for lord knows what reason whilst having the 2i4 why the hell wouldn't I be interested in knowing if the OLDER version is as compatible as the NEWER version? Isn't that the entire reason companies update their products, to optimize them?Īdditionally did you not see the part in my first post where I said I'm well aware of windows vista being old? Why are you repeating back to me, what I just told you? I know it's old, that's the reason I told YOU. It might pass signal, but at what quality?Īnd if you already had interfaces that are working to your satisfaction (one of them being a Scarlett), why ask a question with no meaning? 2i4 works.why wouldn't a 2i2?If you would have bothered reading you'd see that I clearly stated I BOUGHT the focusrite scarlett 2i4.

Personally, I feel it'd be a gamble to expect ANY current interface to operate to it's full potential under the Vista OS. Labeling my post as false is false in itself. Latency issues would be my first concern, with audio glitches being a close second.

Sorry, but Vista is more than 10 years post development and could hardly make benefit of the processing power available in today's PC firmware designs.
